Multimedia University (MMU)
A tertiary education institution set up through Universiti Telekom Sdn Bhd (UTSB), a wholly owned subsidiary of TM, fulfils the noblest of corporate social responsibilities – taking up the challenge of educating the next generation the nation’s leaders and knowledge workers. As the first private university in Malaysia, MMU developed the pioneer model for the successful establishment of private universities in the nation, paving the way for the growth of the private tertiary education sector. As the university at the heart of the MSC, MMU also serves as a catalyst for the development of the high tech ICT industry of the nation, parallel to the Silicon Valley-Stanford model in the United States.
Growing to over 20,000 students in 15 years, MMU has achieved much in a relatively short period of time. The university runs in two campuses, its original campus in the historical city of Melaka, and the campus in Cyberjaya that was opened by the former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed. It has produced 30,523 graduates in its time, and a recent survey demonstrates that 91% of these secure employment within 6 months of the completion of studies. It has also grown an outstanding pool of international students numbering at 4,200 from 77 countries. Establishing itself as a major player in research and development, and maintaining excellent ties with the industry through collaborations and research partnerships, MMU now hosts 13 Research Centres to date, focusing in the niche areas of nanotechnology, microsystems, biometrics, virtual reality, microwave and telecommunications, engineering, photonics, advanced robotics and business.
Through an organisation-wide policy of prudent spending and careful budgeting, the university successfully achieved financial independence within the first 3 years of its founding, and continue to be sustainable and financially healthy to this day. This is in spite of a recent infrastructural expansion in both its campuses during the period of 2006 till present, with the completion of the Phase 3 of development in the Melaka Campus and Phase 2 of development in the Cyberjaya Campus.

Cyberjaya Campus
As part of TM’s initiative to further develop the ICT industry in the nation as a whole, MMU serves to fulfil the nation’s human resource needs as it grows into a knowledge economy. The establishment of MMU as a research university also serves to benefit the nation’s ICT industry to be a creator and not just a consumer of technology. Through the establishment of a local private university, the nation can train its required human resources within its borders, a sound strategy from the economic management perspective.
MMU’s continued growth and sustainability is a clear indication of TM’s strong commitment towards the development of the field of education and research in the nation.

Nusajaya Campus
The MMU Nusajaya Campus offers the the Bachelor of Cinematic Arts (Honours) programme as part of MMU’s objective to be a talent feeder into the nation workforce for the film and creative industry. Join us anytime from 10AM to 4PM at AME (Kelana Jaya)

Why Train With AME TRAINING ACADEMY

AME Training Academy was established by Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers with more than 20 years of experience in the Aviation Industry. Due to their vast experience in the industry, they have decided to come together to establish a Training Academy specialised in training school leavers to becoming skilled Licensed Aircraft Engineers.

Our teaching force consists of Pilots, Licensed Engineers, and Professional Trainers with a Degree in relating fields of studies. These professionals are actively involved in aviation to this day. Due to our passion to train Skilled Engineers, we employ these professionals to educate and train our apprentices to maximise the flow of knowledge.

Our apprentices are placed with maintenance organisations that are actively involved in Aircraft Maintenance Activities. As required, by EASA Part 66 Regulation, our apprentices will be trained on LIVE aircrafts under the mentorship of Licensed Aircraft Engineers. Due to our small intakes, we are able to maximise this process, which in the end, benefits our apprentices immensely on the Hangar floor and in Class.

AME has a range of industrial partners collaborating together in the hopes of creating skilled Licensed Aircraft Engineers. Throughout the duration of our programmes, our apprentices will be placed with them to obtain their hands-on skills, thus enabling them to collect valuable work experience, as required by the EASA Part 66 Regulation.

AME programmes are specifically designed to fulfil EASA Part 66 Regulations. Our programmes are the correct pathway to obtaining an EASA Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance License, which opens doors of opportunities for its holders. An EASA Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance License is a global gateway to obtaining job opportunities worldwide.

It is common aviation practice to remain current on recent updates and industrial growth. We are proud to say that AME stands amongst the group of individuals and organisations that truly understand the EASA Part 66 Regulation and constantly stay current on recent updates. Why? Because, like yourself, AME takes your future very seriously!

UCSI University Poetry Slam Competition 2015

ABOUT

Poetry Cafe KL presents – Let yourself Speak: A spoken word poetry workshop with Elaine Foster.

Spoken word poetry is a style of poetry that is written specifically to be spoken out loud and can be performed theatrically. Spoken word is also known for its focus on socio-political issues, identity and its confessional like delivery. It can be heavy, heart-breaking, healing and humorous. There is no end to what it can be. Join performance poet and poetry educator, Elaine Foster on this exciting collaborative journey of potential self-discovery through writing and performing. Everything is poetry.

For participants interested in taking their work to the stage, you can join the Poetry Slam. Open to anyone, the poetry slam is a poetry competition where participants, called slammers, read and perform their own poems in front of an audience. The Poetry Slam is the perfect opportunity to share your work, get instant feedback and to be part of a supportive community.

OBJECTIVE

UCSI University Poetry Slam Workshop and Competition 2015 is part of the Right to Read Campaign to Encourage Creative Cross-Disciplinary Communication Through the Spoken Word.

It aims to introduce young people and those who are interested to skills they can use both to express themselves through poetry and to deepen their understanding and appreciation of poems written by others.

Organised under the English Language and Communication Department (ELC), the Right to Read Campaign aims to facilitate a love for the written word through a series of activities for communicating the value and aesthetics of the English language and literature particularly, but not exclusively.

Among the activities that had been organised, and continue to be organised, are readings, public talks, a book donation drive, an inter-school drama competition and reading sessions at a girls’ non-profit home.

Frequently-Asked Questions

What is a poetry slam?
A poetry slam is a competitive event in which poets perform their work and are judged, usually by members of the audience, but sometimes by reappointed judges. Typically, the host or another organizer selects the judges, who are instructed to give numerical scores (on a zero to 10 or one to 10 scale) based on the poets’ content and performance.

What kind of poetry is read at slams?
Depends on the venue, depends on the poets, depends on the slam. One of the best things about poetry slam is the range of poets it attracts. You’ll find a diverse range of work within slam, including heartfelt love poetry, searing social commentary, uproarious comic routines, and bittersweet personal confessional pieces. Poets are free to do work in any style on any subject.

What are the rules?

Though rules vary from slam to slam, the basic rules are:

Each poem must be of the poet’s own construction;
Each poet gets three minutes (plus a ten-second grace period) to read one poem. If the poet goes over time, points will be deducted from the total score.
The poet may not use props, costumes or musical instruments;
Of the scores the poet received from the five judges, the high and low scores are dropped and the middle three are added together, giving the poet a total score of 0-30.

How do I win a poetry slam?
Winning a poetry slam requires some measure of skill and a huge dose of luck. The judges’ tastes, the audience’s reactions, and the poets’ performances all shape a slam event, and what wins one week might not get a poet into the second round the next week. There’s no formula for winning a slam, although you become a better poet and performer the same way you get to Carnegie Hall – practice, practice, practice.

** No age limit.
** This event is open to the public but the ECA and SWA points are ONLY applicable to the students of UCSI University. Employees of UCSI University are not permitted to participate in the Competition but are welcome to the Workshop.
